Ghassoul (or Rassoul) is a saponiferous clay rich in essential minerals such as magnesium, iron, sodium, zinc, phosphorus and potassium. These minerals are beneficial for skin radiance, especially for dull, tired skin. It also has absorbing, astringent, softening, soothing, healing, decongesting, remineralizing and stimulating properties. It is particularly suitable for acne-prone skin, clogged pores and infected pimples.
Ghassoul is ideal for gently cleansing oily hair, thanks to its purifying and sebum-regulating properties. It is also used to add volume to fine hair and give it a silky, shiny appearance, making it easier to detangle.

How to use
To prepare a Ghassoul treatment, moisten the powder with mineral water, floral water, herbal infusion or vegetable oil. To increase its effectiveness, Ghassoul paste should be left to rest for a few hours in air and light. When preparing the paste, avoid metal utensils, preferring materials such as earthenware, glass, porcelain and wood.
DIY cosmetics recipe ideas
- Cleansing lotion: Mix 15 g Ghassoul, 30 ml mineral water or herbal infusion, 1 ml vegetable oil and 5 drops essential oil. Leave for 10 minutes before applying to damp face, massage and rinse.
- Purifying mask: Mix 1-2 spoonfuls of Ghassoul with mineral water, apply to damp skin and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
- Cleansing and softening mask: Mix 2 spoons of Ghassoul with spring water, 1 teaspoon of Apricot Kernel oil, 2-3 drops of Rosewood or Geranium essential oil and 1-2 teaspoons of honey. Apply to damp face and leave on for 30 minutes.
- Gentle exfoliant: Mix 50 g Ghassoul, 10 ml honey, 10 ml lemon juice and a few drops of Argan oil. Apply to body, leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off.
- Mask for impure skin (acne): Mix 1-2 spoonfuls of Ghassoul with mineral water and 3 drops of Tea Tree or Fine Lavender essential oil. Apply to damp face and leave on for 10 minutes.
- Anti-cellulite poultice: Mix 8 tablespoons of Ghassoul, 2 tablespoons of powdered seaweed, and essential oils of Cypress, Fine Lavender and Lemon. Add a decoction of climbing ivy and apply to affected areas. Leave on for 20 minutes.
- Oily hair cleanser: Prepare a decoction of Panama wood bark, add 1 spoonful of Ghassoul and a few drops of Lemon essential oil. Apply to wet hair, massage and rinse after 2-5 minutes.
- Hair mask for oily hair: Mix 5 spoonfuls of Ghassoul with rosemary floral water or infusion. Add vegetable oil or egg yolk and essential oils. Apply, leave on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse.
Storage
Close the jar tightly after use to prevent caking of the product, which is sensitive to humidity. Store in a dry place, away from light and at room temperature.
