So how do you get a wound to heal quickly? Can essential oils help?
The importance of rapid healing
Wounds and injuries to the skin, while often common and benign, are not to be taken lightly. In fact, the epidermis is the human body's most important yet most fragile barrier. An opening in the skin, whether large or small, opens the door to all manner of infections, since microbes and micro-organisms can enter the body in large quantities via this route and multiply. Good wound healing is therefore essential to avoid complications in the injured person's state of health. In this context, the use of essential oils can be particularly appropriate.
Thanks to their high concentration of active ingredients, these plant-derived oils can be powerful remedies. While most have antiseptic and antibiotic virtues, some oils have many other properties useful for healing: antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic, they greatly limit the risk of infection following a wound. Once the wound or abrasion has been washed with Marseille soap (which removes most of the dirt and germs likely to infect the wound), you can apply one or more compatible essential oils to enhance healing.
Most essential oils can be used undiluted, except for children under 3, pregnant or breast-feeding women, as they are particularly powerful. In their case, they can be diluted by about 50% in apricot kernel vegetable oil. Essential oils with antiseptic properties include tea tree (the most powerful), thujanol thyme, palmarosa, garden marjoram and eucalyptus cajeput.
Why and how to use essential oils?
Once the wound has been cleaned, it's time to stop the bleeding, first by applying pressure with a bandage, then by applying essential oils of cistus ladanifera or Egyptian rose geranium. The former has a clogging effect that is very useful for abrasions and small wounds, while the latter, on the contrary, accelerates bleeding to help eliminate any bacteria that may have penetrated the wound, and then stops it very quickly.
However, certain parts of the body need to be treated with particular care. In all cases, essential oils such as cistus ladanifera, rosemary verbenone, lavender aspic, bitter myrrh and Italian helichrysum are ideal for rapid healing. For rapid wound healing, the most effective solution is a synergy of the following essential oils:
- Cistus ladanifera essential oil: 15 drops
- Italian helichrysum essential oil: 10 drops
- Bitter myrrh essential oil: 15 drops
- Rosemary verbenone essential oil: 10 drops
- Spike lavender essential oil: 10 drops
- Rose hip oil QSP: 10 ml
This mixture, applied twice a day to the wound in doses of 2 to 5 drops, promotes rapid, natural healing, taking advantage of the many properties of these miraculous plants. You can use this synergy for up to 7 days, and repeat the massage 2 or 3 times in a row if healing is difficult. For larger wounds, dilute in apricot kernel oil.
