Scabies, a benign disease
Scabies is relatively easy to catch, as it is a highly contagious skin condition. Although it had almost disappeared in Europe, it seems to have come back with a vengeance in recent years, making it all the more important to treat it quickly to prevent its spread. Scabies is caused by microscopic mites called Sarcoptes Scabiei, which burrow into the skin and lay their eggs. Its symptoms are mainly severe itching caused by this foreign presence in the epidermis. The furrows created by the mites in the skin are most numerous on the hands, elbows, wrists and underarms, but also on the breasts, genitals, head and thighs.
Scabies is highly contagious, as the parasite lives on the surface of the skin for some time and can remain on many surfaces, including textiles (clothing, linen, etc.). It is most often transmitted by direct skin contact. It is therefore particularly common in communities with many members living together, but does not necessarily imply a poor lifestyle. Anyone can catch scabies through close exposure to infected skin or textiles. So, contrary to popular belief, there's no shame in contracting this skin disease.
Essential oils, effective in treating scabies
Since scabies is caused by mites, there's a simple, natural way to get rid of them: by using essential oils. Insects, parasites and mites all fear certain plants, especially their odors. So it's simple and effective to use essential oils to limit the spread of the condition throughout the body. The following oils are particularly effective in treating the condition. You can create your own synergy by respecting the doses indicated in brackets:
- Chinese cinnamon essential oil (2 mL)
- Clove tree essential oil (2 mL)
- Tea Tree essential oil (1 mL)
- Peppermint essential oil (1 mL)
- Annual Tansy essential oil (1 mL)
- Jojoba vegetable oil (93 mL)
This homemade lotion contains 7% essential oils. Simply apply this mixture directly to and around the scabby areas of the skin. Leave on for one hour, then rinse off with cool water. The lotion should be applied twice a day for 5 days, to all animals affected or living with them. Smaller animals will receive half the dosage (the lotion can be diluted in double the amount of jojoba oil).
Essential oil capsules can also be taken orally. However, these are sold as such and cannot be manufactured by you. To optimize the product's effectiveness, it is also advisable to limit the presence of dust mites in the environment. We therefore recommend machine-washing all textiles at 60°, or disinfecting them if they are not machine-washable. Thanks to the essential oils with antibacterial and antiseptic properties contained in the homemade lotion whose recipe we've given you here, it's possible to treat scabies naturally and effectively. Also effective as a preventive treatment, this blend of essential oils has soothing properties that will help you get through this ordeal with greater peace of mind.
