Losing weight with essential oils

Essential oils and weight loss: 5 ways to help you

First of all, it's important to point out that essential oils alone won't make you lose weight. They can, however, reinforce the effectiveness of a healthy lifestyle based on a balanced diet and regular physical activity. Here's how they can help.

1 - Reduce cellulite

Certain essential oils are effective in combating cellulite thanks to their components, notably ketones, which help dissolve fat. Essential oils such as cedarwood, linalool thyme, cinnamon and basil contain ketones. Cutaneous application, in the form of massage, is particularly recommended for cinnamon, thyme and cedar oils. The massage technique, such as palpate-roll, is as crucial as the oil used. See our "Massages with essential oils" section for explanatory videos, and find a suitable recipe in the section dedicated to cinnamon essential oil. Basil, on the other hand, is recommended for oral use and can also be used to enhance your dishes. Discover a recipe on our page dedicated to basil essential oil.2- Stimulate lymphatic and venous circulation

Stimulating lymphatic and venous circulation completes the anti-cellulite action. The diterpene and sesquiterpene molecules present in certain essential oils have the desired action. They are found in pine, cypress and cedar essential oils. See cypress essential oil for recipes to activate lymphatic and venous circulation.

3 - Eliminate toxins

Essential oils with depurative properties, such as carrot, or hepatocytic properties (restoring liver cells), such as myrtle essential oil, are preferred. Carrot essential oil should be taken 2 drops at a time, with meals. Myrtle is best used externally (massage).

4 - Regulate appetite

The aim here is to calm hunger and reduce feelings of craving. Certain oils, such as chamomile, basil and tarragon, have intestinal anti-spasmodic properties.

5 - Flat stomach

Essential oils work effectively to reduce bloating (and the unpleasant sensations that go with it). These include tarragon, caraway, coriander, peppermint, exotic basil, cumin and fennel. To reduce bloating, these essential oils can be massaged or taken orally. See peppermint essential oil for 2 recipe examples.

Flat stomach tips: to avoid bloating, choose non-irritating, non-aggressive foods such as apricots, pineapple, watermelon, eggplant, carrots, pumpkin, green beans, lemon and cranberry juice, compote, cornflakes, rusks, eggs, chicken cutlets...

Example of how to use essential oils to accompany a slimming diet:

  • Morning and evening: Massage cellulite-prone areas with an anti-cellulite lotion containing essential oils. Anti-cellulite massage oil Huiles & Sens stimulates venous and lymphatic circulation, while combating cellulite.
  • Noon: Add 2 drops of basil or tarragon essential oil to your meal (alternating). For dessert, a drop of lemon essential oil in plain yoghurt (without sugar).
  • Evening: Take 2 drops of carrot essential oil on a bread crumb before eating.
