here are different types of scars: colored spots, depressed scars (known as "ice pick" scars) and keloids (raised scars). The older the scar, the more difficult it is to get rid of. However, it is possible to make a scar disappear with the right care. In this respect, the use of essential oils is both effective in accelerating the disappearance of recent scars and attenuating existing ones.

Which essential oils can help the skin heal better?

Skin healing is a multi-stage process that can vary according to the type of wound (more or less deep). First, damaged cells undergo necrosis and are gradually eliminated. They then give way to new, healthy cells. When there is significant tissue loss, such as in the dermis, the skin must completely reconstitute itself, even in the deepest layers. Sometimes the healing process does not proceed as planned, resulting in the appearance of a scar.

This process can be delayed or altered by the presence of bacteria. It is therefore essential to disinfect the wound thoroughly, especially when there is a risk of underlying infection (a pierced acne pimple, for example). General health also has an influence on wound healing, which can be impaired by a weakened immune system. Several essential oils help the skin heal and heal better.

  • Geranium: geranium essential oil is ideal for improving healing. It is both purifying and hemostatic (helps reduce bleeding). Geranium promotes cell regeneration and, by the same token, skin repair.
  • Tea tree: if you only need one essential oil to disinfect your skin, choose tea tree oil, a true "all-rounder". It acts on a very wide range of microbial strains, and quickly sanitizes wounds. Tea tree essential oil also stimulates the immune system and is therefore recommended for more fragile people who have difficulty healing.
  • Lavender aspic: astringent and purifying, lavender helps purify the skin and accelerate cell regeneration. It is particularly well-suited to the removal of old marks, such as colored spots left by pimples. Lavender can relieve burns thanks to its decongestant effect.
  • Italian Helichrysum essential oil: helps treat keloid scars by activating healing, minimizing inflammatory phenomena and reducing skin overflow.

Removing scars with essential oils: instructions for use

Essential oils work in synergy with rosehip or argan oils, which intensely nourish the skin and improve its elasticity. They can also be mixed with a neutral oil or a little Aloe Vera gel and applied locally. Geranium, tea tree, lavender and Helichrysum essential oils should not be used on open, profusely bleeding or oozing wounds. Nor should they be used on young children. For best results, act as early as possible. If you want to treat a scar that has already set in, you'll need to be patient. Old or post-surgical scars require long-term treatment, which can last several months. Massage is particularly recommended for raised scars. It promotes tissue drainage and helps to flatten the scar.
