Essential oils are a natural and effective remedy for a variety of ailments in children, when used with care. Whether it's to treat head lice, soothe restlessness or nightmares, or relieve a cold or burn, these essences offer many practical solutions. This guide presents curative and preventive treatments for children, including eliminating lice with lavender and tea tree preparations, calming anxiety with chamomile and lavender, and repelling mosquitoes with repellent essential oil blends.
Essential oils against lice
This complete "Stop Lice" treatment will help you get rid of them - at last!
We'll show you how to do it, step by step, every day, either as a curative or a preventive measure.
For the duration of the treatment, and until the parasites are completely eliminated, machine-wash sheets, pillows and clothes at the highest possible temperature. You can add 2 teaspoons of eucalyptus essential oil to the rinse water.
DIY solutions to prepare :
- Stop Poux" oil / No. 1: Mix 50 drops of Lavender essential oil + 50 drops of Tea Tree essential oil in 100 ml of Coconut vegetable oil. Shake well. It's important to use a very fluid oil, such as Coconut or Babassu oil. Other oils, such as olive oil p.ex., risk being too thick and will not suffocate the lice.
- Stop Lice Oil / No. 2: Mix 50 ml Coconut oil + 50 ml Neem oil + essential oils of Lavender + Tea Tree + Oregano + Rosemary (10 drops each). Shake well.
- Stop Poux" shampoo: Mix 250 ml neutral base + 50 drops Lavender essential oil + 50 drops Geranium essential oil
- Stop Poux" rinsing lotion:Mix 1/2 liter white vinegar + 1/2 liter water + 10 drops Lavender essential oil.
Curative treatment:
-
Day 1 - evening: Apply "Stop Poux" / No. 1 oil generously to hair and scalp. Then cover head with a rubber swimming cap overnight to smother lice and loosen nits. Sleep with a terry towel to absorb any oil leaks.
-
Day 2 - morning: comb through hair to remove nits. Then wash hair with anti-lice shampoo. Rinse with clean water, then use a little vinegar-based "Stop Poux" lotion. Place 5 to 6 drops of lavender, geranium, rosemary, eucalyptus or tea tree essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply to dry hair (especially above the ears and nape of the neck). Pour a few drops of one of these essential oils onto the collar and hood of your jacket or beanie.
-
Day 2 - evening: Apply Stop Poux / No. 2 oil generously to hair and scalp. Cover head with a rubber swimming cap overnight. Sleep on a terry towel to absorb any oil leaks.
-
Day 3 - morning: Same as Day 2 - morning.
-
Days 4 to 7: Same as Day 1 - evening and Day 2 - morning.
After 10 to 12 days after the curative treatment, to avoid the possible outbreak of nits that may have survived, perform a "booster shot" by applying, over one day, the treatments of Day 1 - evening and Day 2 - morning.
Preventive treatment :
Use "Stop Poux" shampoo as a preventive treatment, and spread 5 to 6 drops of lavender, geranium, rosemary, eucalyptus or tea tree essential oil in the palm of your hand, then apply to dry hair (above the ears and on the nape of the neck). You can also apply a few drops of one of these essential oils to the collar and hood of your child's jacket or bonnet.
